The app
V Pro for APWH is a mobile app for students of AP World History, made by Greg Easley, an AP
World History teacher. It is available by invitation only. Its mini-games turn the course's review
work — civilizations, people, causes and effects — into short games.
What we built
Working from the client's artwork, sound and question content, we developed three mini-games for
the app. Each trains a different AP World History skill, and each has hundreds of questions grouped
by the course's historical periods.
- CivRoller — which civilization? A clue appears, such as "lack of natural barriers leads to
less political stability", with the answers A to E — Mesopotamia, Egypt, Indus, Shang China or
Olmec. Students roll a marble into the slot of the civilization they think it describes.
- BioBlaster — who dat? A clue like "Founder of Taoism" or "Became known as The Buddha"
appears alongside a list of historical figures — Confucius, Lao Tzu, Alexander the Great, Cyrus
of Persia — and students aim a cannon at the right one.
- CauseDive — cause and effect. For an event such as the Neolithic Revolution, students dive in
a parachute and hit the valid causes and effects. Hitting an invalid one brings up a short
correction, so a mistake teaches something.
Built for revision on a phone
The games run in a pixel-art style in portrait, sized for a phone screen, with sound for every
moment that matters — a marble dropping into a slot, a correct hit, a parachute opening.
From content to game
The question sets — hundreds of clues, causes and effects across the course's periods — came from the
client's content. Each set was built into the game that suits it best, so the course's material could
be practised in three different ways.
